NEW YORK — Cheap Al Bianchi Jersey, who played for the Philadelphia 76ers and was later an NBA coach and executive, has died. He was 87.

The New York Knicks said Bianchi died in Arizona of natural causes. He was the team’s general manager from 1987-91, signing future All-Star John Starks.

Bianchi was an original member of the 76ers, starting his 10-year career with the Syracuse Nationals in 1956-57 and remaining with the team following its move to Philadelphia.

He spent two seasons as coach of the Seattle SuperSonics before moving over to the ABA, where he was the Coach of the Year in 1970-71 with the Virginia Squires. Bianchi also had two stints as an assistant coach with the Phoenix Suns and one season with Chicago.

The Philadelphia 76ers are one of the hallmark organizations in the NBA. The franchise has won three NBA titles and been home to some of the greatest players in league history. In fact, one could say that Sixers fans have been spoiled with Hall of Fame players.

The NBA is a players’ league, so the superstars rightfully get the most credit when a team succeeds. However, having a strong, insightful coach is important in the league since talent can only take you so far once the playoffs start.

For this piece, we ranked the top four head coaches in Sixers franchise history, starting off with a guy who wasn’t able to win a championship but racked up the fourth-most wins as head coach.

4. Larry Brown

Brown coached the Sixers for six seasons. The team made the playoffs five times and went to the Finals once, where they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in five games despite superstar Cheap Allen Iverson Jersey doing all he could to will Philly to victory.

Brown won the 2000-01 Coach of the Year Award.

The Sixers secured 255 victories in the regular-season with Brown leading the charge. The now-retired tactician is third in franchise history for playoffs wins with 28. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a coach in 2002.

3. Alex Hannum

Under Hannum’s leadership, the Sixers won 257 games in the regular season and 26 in the playoffs. He ranks third in franchise history in regular-season wins and fourth in postseason victories.

The Sixers won the 1967 NBA championship under Hannum, defeating the San Francisco Warriors in six games to capture the title.

Hannum, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1998 as a coach, passed away in 2002.

2. Cheap Al Cervi Jersey

Cervi coached the Sixers for eight years. He won 294 games and is second in franchise history in that category.

The Sixers captured the 1955 championship with Cervi, although the team was called the Syracuse Nationals at the time. Cervi won 33 games as head coach in the postseason, giving him the second-most playoff wins in franchise history.

The Hall of Fame inducted Cervi as a head coach in 1985. He passed away in 2009 at the age of 92.

1. Cheap Billy Cunningham Jersey

Four hundred fifty-four: that’s how many games the Sixers won with Cunningham leading the way.

Billy has the most wins in franchise history by a wide margin both in the regular season and playoffs. The Sixers won 66 games in the postseason under his tutelage.

In 1983, the Sixers swept the Los Angeles Lakers to win the title. Philly won 65 games that season and was led by Cheap Moses Malone Jersey, who won Finals MVP after averaging 25.8 points, 18.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists against the Lakers.

Cunningham spent his entire coaching career in Philadelphia. He resigned in 1985, finishing with a regular-season record of 454-196 and a playoff mark of 66-39.

Who’s Next For Philly?

The 2019-20 Sixers, coached by Brett Brown, were in sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings before the season was suspended due to COVID-19. The team has lost in the second round of the playoffs in back-to-back seasons.

Some in Philadelphia believe Brown is on the hot seat.

Brett is kind of like Larry. Both of their last names are Brown and both guys are polarizing figures in Philadelphia. Only time will tell if Brett can join this Sixers coaching list one day.

For that to happen, he first has to guide the team to at least one Finals berth like Larry did in 2001.

The Philadelphia 76ers were a top team in the NBA during the early 2000s. Allen Iverson starred for the 76ers during that time and led them to the 2001 NBA Finals. One teammate that helped him a lot during his time in Philadelphia was Aaron McKie. McKie was never the top player on his team, but he knew how to play his role, and he was productive on the court.

He spent 13 seasons in the NBA and played for four different teams. After he retired from the league, he became a coach, where he still makes an impact on the game.

Before he became an NBA player, McKie starred in college. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, native stayed in-state to play college basketball. He decided to attend Temple University. McKie finished his career tied for sixth on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,650 points. During his three-year career at Temple, he averaged 17.9 points and started all 92 games he played in.

McKie was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year during his junior year after averaging 20.6 points. At Temple, he was teammates with future NBA All-Star Eddie Jones. After his career at Temple, McKie was the 17th overall pick in the 1994 NBA draft by the Portland Trail Blazers. McKie played for Portland from 1994 to 1997. During the middle of the 1996-97 season, he was traded to the Detroit Pistons.

After a brief stint in Detroit, he joined the 76ers, where he spent most of his career. McKie had a lot of success playing in his hometown. He primarily came off the bench playing for the 76ers, and during the 2000-01 season, he was named NBA Sixth Man of the Year. McKie was the backup guard to Cheap Allen Iverson Jersey and Cheap Eric Snow Jersey, and he did start some games during his career. He was a part of the 76ers team that reached the 2001 NBA Finals against the LA Lakers. During the series, McKie started all five games and averaged eight points, six assists, and 5.4 rebounds.

After spending eight seasons in Philadelphia, he finished his career with the Lakers. McKie averaged 7.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists during his career.

Allen Iverson enjoyed playing with Aaron McKie

Allen Iverson and Aaron McKie were teammates together in Philadelphia for multiple years. Iverson was the star during his time with the 76ers, but he knew he would not have had the success he had if it wasn’t for his teammates. During Iverson’s retirement ceremony in 2013, he acknowledged his teammates. “Without my teammates none of this, the accomplishments I have had in my career, they would not have happened without those guys,” Iverson said. “Those guys set screens for me, they played hard for me and they were with me the whole way in allowing me to become a household name.”

One teammate that Iverson enjoyed playing with was McKie. “He helped me so much in my career,” Iverson said about McKie. “I talk about the mistakes that I made in my career. I made a million of them, but if it weren’t for Aaron McKie I would have made two million of them. He is just somebody I always listened to and could talk to about anything.”

Iverson has a lot of respect for McKie, and he was someone that helped him out a lot throughout his career. McKie made a name for himself throughout his time in the NBA, and although he was never a top player, he made an impact.

Aaron McKie is now making an impact as a coach

After his playing career ended in 2007, McKie joined the coaching staff for the 76ers. He served as an assistant coach for the 76ers from 2008 to 2013. After serving on the 76ers coaching staff, he returned to his alma mater and served as an assistant coach for Temple from 2014 to 2019. In 2019, Temple announced that McKie would replace Fran Dunphy as the head coach of the men’s basketball team at the start of the 2019 season.

During the 2019-20 season, Temple finished the season with a 14-17 record and a 6-12 record in conference play. Temple has yet to play a game during the 2020-21 season due to COVID-19. They have had several games canceled/postponed, and their first game is scheduled for Dec. 22 against Houston. McKie has a passion for basketball, and he has a lot of basketball experience.

The Sixers gladly expanded their list of available players Thursday night, welcoming Cheap Tobias Harris Jersey, Cheap Shake Milton Jersey and Cheap Matisse Thybulle Jersey back into the rotation after they’d missed the past three games because of the NBA’s health and safety protocols.

Sizing Up Eastern Conference’s Potential Contenders After James Harden Trade
That trio helped the Sixers to another win over the Heat, a 125-108 decision at Wells Fargo Center. Milton had 31 points and seven assists in 27 minutes and Harris posted 18 points. Though Thybulle shot just 2 for 7, he picked up four steals and a block

Miami had only eight players again, with eight still sidelined for health and safety reasons.

The 9-4 Sixers next play the Grizzlies on Saturday night. Here are observations on their win Thursday over Miami:

Like they never left
If one was not aware of the context, there were no apparent signs that Harris, Milton and Thybulle had been unable to practice with the team until Thursday’s morning shootaround.

Harris came up short on his first jumper but made his next three field goals. Milton conducted the offense well as the second-unit lead ball handler, playing at a controlled pace in the pick-and-roll and putting Miami’s defense in suboptimal positions. He drew fouls, found rollers and picked out shooters. At the end of the opening period, Milton made an off-balance quasi-heave under tight pressure, not the first time this season he’s converted a difficult shot as a quarter wound down.

Milton totaled 43 points on 14-for-22 shooting in the two games prior to this recent absence, and there was certainly nothing to suggest the time away stunted his development.

Thybulle fouled Tyler Herro on a three-point attempt early in his first stint, though he was sharp from that point on defensively. His block on Heat big man Precious Achiuwa after falling well behind the play on a Herro-Achiuwa pick-and-roll was a nice display of the 23-year-old’s high-level closing speed, instincts and knack for disruption.

Even with three important players back, head coach Doc Rivers kept guard Cheap Isaiah Joe Jersey in his rotation, calling his defensive performance in Tuesday’s win “spectacular.”

The rookie stuffed a Herro jumper and was again competitive and attentive defensively. One quality Rivers likes with Joe on the other end of the floor is his let-it-fly mindset.

“Of course I probably won’t have the green light I had at (Arkansas), but the team is bringing me on for a reason and that’s to shoot the ball,” Joe said before the season. “They’re not going to bring a shooter on a team to not shoot the ball. That’s what I’m going to do. If they tell me otherwise, then I have to cater to that. But coming on, I really believe that they are getting me for shooting ability, and so I’ve got to do that to the best of my ability.”

Joe hasn’t been told otherwise and he drained four threes Thursday night, the third consecutive game he’s done so.

The Maxey-Simmons combination
A notable contrast: Cheap Ben Simmons Jersey first basket came with 4:46 remaining in the second quarter, while Cheap Tyrese Maxey Jersey first came with 1:28 left in the first half after a 6-for-6 start.

Simmons, who had a triple-double with 10 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds, started alongside Maxey (15 points on 6-for-10 shooting) for a second consecutive game and continued to have his greatest impact offensively by driving and kicking out to shooters. Miami sagged off of him when he brought the ball up the floor and double teamed him on several occasions when he received it in the elbow or short corner regions, an approach that gave Simmons some trouble. The Australian had more success after halftime, pushing the pace effectively and slamming home a put-back dunk in the third quarter.

In the long term, the Sixers will need dependable solutions when opponents give Simmons an exaggerated amount of space, and perhaps one will sometimes be using him in the high post and searching for high-low actions with Embiid. That concept has looked promising at times, and Simmons obviously has experience from last year as a facilitator at the elbow. The Sixers’ best bet when Simmons handles the ball still seems to be eschewing half-court offense entirely and letting him be creative and explosive in transition.

Simmons missed a wide-open corner three in the middle of the second period, his third long-range attempt this season. It was a good look and clearly the right shot to take.

There will inevitably be heightened scrutiny of Simmons, his willingness to shoot and whether he improves offensively after multiple reports that the Sixers included him in James Harden trade discussions and then did not land the eight-time All-Star. Harden is now officially a member of the Nets and could make his Brooklyn debut Saturday. The Sixers are scheduled to play the Nets at Wells Fargo Center on Feb. 6.

Rivers was asked before the game whether he was relieved that the Harden drama has been resolved.

“I don’t know if I’m relieved,” he said. “I’ll just keep saying it, and I said it before, I like our team. I like the day after the trade and all that stuff that we are the same team. I think that’s the best way to answer that.”

Maxey’s offensive variety stood out Thursday as he scored on fast-break dunks, pull-up mid-range jumpers and catch-and-shoot threes. He’s the Sixer who’s boosted his stock on the court the most since Cheap Seth Curry Jersey tested positive for COVID-19 a week ago.

MVP-level Embiid not needed
Cheap Joel Embiid Jersey didn’t replicate Tuesday’s 45-point effort, and the Sixers didn’t require anything similar. Given Miami was still missing Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo and Goran Dragic, it wouldn’t be accurate to call the Sixers’ blowing out the Heat without a world-class Embid performance incredibly encouraging. Against a badly shorthanded opponent, the Sixers took care of business.

That said, it’s nice for the Sixers that Embiid only had to play 24 minutes after going 39 Tuesday, especially with a road back-to-back looming Saturday and Sunday against the Grizzlies and Thunder, respectively.

Embiid has played 35 or more minutes in five games this season and 27 or fewer in four. When there have been opportunities for in-game load management, Rivers has been happy to take them.
